THE COUNTY DEVELOPMENT BOARD IS ... / Bord
Forbartha an Chonate
The Kerry County Development Board was established in February 2000.
The Board draws its members from four sectors, the Local Government
Sector ie. Kerry County Council and the Urban District
Councils, the Local Development Sector such as Leader
Group and ADM funded groups, the State Sector and the Social
Partners that is, employers, agriculture/farming groups and
community and voluntary groups.
WHAT WE DO? The most important role of the Board is to put in place
a County Strategy to address the long term economic, social
and cultural development of the county. It is a 'shared
vision' meaning a common view of where the county is going, what
it wants to achieve, what its problems are, and how they are going
to be addressed.
WE HAVE HEARD ALL THIS BEFORE, WHAT IS DIFFERENT ABOUT THIS?
/ Tá sé seo ar fad cloiste cheana
againn, cad atá difriúil faoi seo?
- We operate at a County level.
- We have strong institutional links to Local Government.
- We have strong Central Government and inter-departmental support.
- We have statutory recognition.
- We will consistently ask questions of people in this process.
- We will ensure that all plans operating within the county
are consistent with the County Development Board Strategy.
WHAT WE DON'T DO: / Cad ná déanaimid:
We do not administer grants to projects.
There are other agencies
in the county to do this and the County Development Board does not
duplicate the activities of these agencies.
HOW WILL THE COUNTY BENEFIT? / Cén
leas atá ann don chontae?
Never before has a gathering of all the major players in the county
taken place in such a structured fashion. It offers the county
a real opportunity to ensure that public services are streamlined
in a co-ordinated, efficient and democratic manner. The ownership
of the process by the community is essential to its success.
