The meaning of "Meitheal"
"Meitheal" is a term which is
derived from the co-operative labour system in rural Ireland. The term
is recorded from twenty-two of the thirty-two counties, County Kerry
being one of the twenty-two. In all cases meitheal means a team of more
than three workers. Meitheal generally refers to any team of people
and not necessarily those convened for co-operative labour. (source:A
study of Co-operative Labour in Rural Ireland; Ms. Anne O'Dowd;published
1981)
